Our new approach helps drive meaningful conversations as you reflect on your goals throughout the year through on-going conversations with your manager. You will take mutual accountability for your development alongside your manager.
Accountability for effective reviews is shared. To make sure that conversations and discussions with your manager stay rich and evidence-based, it's important that you actively seek feedback and any related data to support you achieving your goals.
This is more than a once-a-year, tick-box exercise. This strengthens coaching and feedback, and supports your continuous growth.

It's your responsibility to capture and request useful, quantifiable feedback from your colleagues throughout the year. You also need to capture evidence about how your work is making a difference and how you're delivering against your goals.
While your manager will also work actively with your other matrix managers where relevant, you should make sure you are capturing input from colleagues as it comes up and as you deliver on projects.
Ideas for where feedback and evidence could support ongoing conversations:
Feedback from a client to show time saved on a process you developed, demonstrating your personal impact.
Insight from colleagues in another business area where you gave advice on a project to demonstrate your contribution to the success of others.
Quantified project milestones or actions – examples include a contract's value, money saved by changing a process, open rates on emails sent, and tickets resolved from an enquiry system.
Input from a senior colleagues who mentored you in how to onboard new team members to show how you've grown your skills.
Proactively seeking feedback will strengthen the dialogue with your managers and help build on success or correct your course as needed.
A mid-year discussion confirms that you and your manager are aligned on your performance. It helps address issues affecting performance early and lets people identify additional support if needed. Matrix managers, such as practice and region leaders, will be expected to collaborate throughout the year and share feedback – this avoids inconsistent messaging and shows that performance is on track.

This is a documented discussion with your manager.
It gives you the chance to reflect and summarize the impact and growth discussed all year long. Remember that this reflection should be based around the three dimensions of impact and it might be useful to reflect on these again as you approach year-end discussions.
Matrix managers, such as practice and region leaders, will be expected to collaborate throughout the year and share feedback – this avoids inconsistent messaging and shows that performance is on track.

Task: Your manager will complete the final review of your performance. They will identify your growth zone and also, where relevant, flag your impact as Exceptional or Inconsistent. Where someone is flagged as Exceptional, this will trigger a consistency review. Flagging Inconsistent is to have clear documentation to enable focused coaching.
Growth is an expectation for everyone. As part of your year-end review, you will describe how capabilities are developing and applied over time using growth zones.
The zones support development conversations and help people understand how building and applying skills increases their ability to deliver impact now and in the future.
